OK, but it&#8217;s a little light&#8230;<br>\nToday, <strong>there are many <em>&#8220;models&#8221;<\/em> for couples<\/strong>: <em>religious sacrament, civil or secular ceremony&#8230;<\/em> <br>\nAnd yet, if you&#8217;re here, you&#8217;ve probably chosen the institution of marriage. So why this choice?\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3caa0094 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3caa0094\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFollowing a course of <strong><a class=\"lien_html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.app.unio-preparation.com\/en\/premarital-counseling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">premarital counseling<\/a><\/strong>is the best way to get to the heart of the matter.<br>\nBut in this article, we&#8217;ll help you to see things a little more clearly, by helping you to <strong>distinguish between the more superficial reasons<\/strong> <em>(which are by no means to be discarded!)<\/em> <strong>and the deeper<\/strong> ones that you can rely on in your future life together.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-473affd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"473affd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<strong>Love<\/strong> is probably the primary driving force behind the choice you&#8217;ve just made in complete freedom, and that&#8217;s great! But <em>(spoiler alert <\/em><em> \ud83d\udea8)<\/em> that&#8217;s not enough to commit to marriage, which <strong>requires hard work and an immense will<\/strong>, far beyond the feeling of love: as Bismarck points out, <em>&#8220;I&#8217;m not marrying you because I love you, but to love you.&#8221;<\/em>.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6593d96d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6593d96d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSo it&#8217;s a good idea to think carefully about the commitment you&#8217;re about to make, before you say yes. Getting married is much more than signing a piece of paper or going through the administrative process.<br>\nFrom the time you met until now, you&#8217;ve probably already made commitments to each other <em>(being in an exclusive relationship, maybe moving in together&#8230;)<\/em>.<br>\nSo <strong>why this new commitment?<\/strong> Why get married <strong>now?<\/strong> What does it mean to you? The wrong reasons to get married<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c12c34b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c12c34b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>You&#8217;ve just made <strong>one of the most important, or at least the craziest, decisions of your life<\/strong>: whether to share the rest of your life with your lover, by proposing or accepting.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1d4d7cc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1d4d7cc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tYou&#8217;ve started planning and making choices:<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\">\n \t<li>What type of wedding ceremony are you planning for your dream day: religious, civil or secular?\n<\/li>\n \t<li>Choosing your wedding dress and suit\n<\/li>\n \t<li>Deciding where to receive<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\">&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4d642c8d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4d642c8d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBut beyond the organization of your D-day, which we hope will be magical, have you asked yourself the question that all future spouses should ask themselves first?  <strong>why the decision to marry?<\/strong> The divorce rate in the US would probably be lower if all couples took the time to really ask themselves this question&#8230;<br>\nIn fact, this question is one of the <strong><a class=\"lien_html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.app.unio-preparation.com\/en\/blog\/50-questions-to-ask-before-getting-married\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">50 questions to ask yourself before getting married<\/a><\/strong>.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-021c857 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"021c857\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhile there are almost as many good reasons as there are future brides and grooms <em>(such as the desire to build a family with the person you&#8217;ve chosen, making the choice to always support each other&#8230;)<\/em>, we can agree on <strong>the &#8220;bad reasons&#8221;<\/strong>.  \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1d4df8b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1d4df8b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tYvan Castanou (in <u>Building a happy and lasting marriage<\/u>), which we don&#8217;t recommend reading as it is very religion-oriented and <em>&#8220;old school&#8221;<\/em> in our opinion, but from which we can nevertheless retain certain points) <strong>details seven<\/strong> of them:\n\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 0px; list-style-type: none;\">\n \t<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u274c Prove to ourselves that we&#8217;re not a failure, or wash away an affront experienced in a past relationship.\n<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u274c Don&#8217;t stay alone.<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u274c Escaping difficult living conditions for one of the spouses.<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u274c Receiving love and feeling appreciated (although that&#8217;s a big bonus of marriage, we&#8217;ll grant you).<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u274c Being able to be happy and fulfilled (same as above; this is a big plus of marriage but you don&#8217;t have to wait for it to be happy). It&#8217;s better to learn to be happy with yourself first.\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u274c For looks and gender only.<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px;\">\u274c For fear of remaining single for a long time and not having children.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fec35fe elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fec35fe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<u>Let&#8217;s add a few of our own:<\/u> \n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 0px; list-style-type: none;\">\n \t<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u274c by <strong>social convention<\/strong>,<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u274c to <strong>have just one big party<\/strong>,  \n<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u274c to <strong>please the other<\/strong> (under pressure, that is),<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u274c to breathe <strong>new life<\/strong> into a failing relationship<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px;\">\u274c to <strong>control the other<\/strong> (by <em>&#8220;putting the rope around<\/em> his <em> neck&#8221;<\/em>)\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-52589ef elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"52589ef\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>If you don&#8217;t recognize yourself in any of these reasons, that&#8217;s a good start in your married life!<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7c2c2aa1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"7c2c2aa1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">2 - Why get married: good reasons to say yes\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-056714d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"056714d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOn the other hand, there are thousands of <em>&#8220;good&#8221;<\/em> reasons to get married!\nYou&#8217;re probably thinking of the classics:  \n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 0px; list-style-type: none;\">\n \t<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u2705 <strong>celebrate his love<\/strong>,<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\"><strong>\u2705 formalize the relationship<\/strong> with a beautiful wedding,<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u2705 pledge fidelity<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u2705 share his happiness with his loved ones,<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 0px;\">\u2705 respect a certain tradition,<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px;\">\u2705 bear the same name&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1b76b211 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1b76b211\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>They are certainly relevant, but here we propose to explore other less obvious and probably slightly deeper reasons.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-38eb9918 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"38eb9918\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhat they all have in common, and what we are convinced of, is that marriage is not just about loving, but about <strong>choosing to love<\/strong>.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4817d72 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4817d72\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<strong>Feelings alone don&#8217;t make for a happy marriage<\/strong> <em>(or only for a while, which a priori isn&#8217;t your goal if divorce isn&#8217;t in your plans)<\/em>.
